How to Use Multicollab with WPML to Collaborate on Multilingual Sites

Multicollab is fully compatible with WPML.

Multicollab works with WPML out of the box. You can comment on your content with your team and translate it with your preferred method (manual or automatic).

Install and configure WPML

Let's begin the installation of WPML. When using WPML for the first time, you can opt for manual installation or use the OTGS Installer plugin. The OTGS Installer is a lightweight plugin that facilitates the installation process of all necessary WPML components.

When you first activate WPML, a setup wizard will help you specify the essential settings you need to prepare your site for multilingual content.

In the wizard:

  • Choose target languages and URL format for your translated pages.
  • Add your site’s description and target audience. WPML’s proprietary AI, Private Translation Cloud (PTC), uses this information to apply the right terminology and tone.

You can modify this context later from WPML ➡️Settings.

  • Add your translators or connect a translation service. You can also configure this later from WPML ➡️Translation Dashboard ➡️Translators. Translators can also review automatic translations. They just need to accept the invitation link to ensure they can make changes.

Sending content for translation

The central place to translate content on your site is the Translation Dashboard.

1. Go to WPML ➡️Translation Dashboard and select the content you want to translate under the different sections. Then, click on Translate your content.

2. At Step 2, choose your preferred translation method. WPML recommends PTC for the highest quality automatic translations. The Dashboard shows you the cost of automatically translating the content you’ve selected. You can also assign one of your available translators.

Once you’re ready, click Translate.

3. If you choose to translate manually, your translators can go to the translation queue under WPML ➡️Translations. This page shows completed and pending translations.

To review and edit automatic translations, see the translated page on the frontend and click to edit translation at the top admin bar. This will open WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor where you or other translators can make changes.
